AMZ Activities Group began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when our founder, Michelle Morgan, recognised the lack of opportunities available for adults with additional support needs.
Having worked in the support sector for many years, Michelle saw first-hand how isolating life had become for the people she supported. Determined to make a difference, she approached the local council, who helped her establish a small activity group within a community centre.
What started with just a handful of people enjoying activities, laughter and companionship quickly became something special. The positive feedback was so encouraging that the council urged Michelle to keep the group running.
And that's where our journey began!
From just five people attending our early sessions, AMZ has grown into a thriving activity centre welcoming over 100 adults with additional support needs.
As our community grew, so did our activities, our team and our ambitions, eventually leading us to one of our proudest achievements, having a building of our very own!
Although we've come a long way, our purpose remains the same: reducing social isolation, building friendships and creating a welcoming space where everyone feels included, valued and part of something special.
Family has always been at the heart of AMZ, and we're incredibly proud to have grown together.
Michelle started the journey, with her daughter Amy helping behind the scenes before leaving her job to join full-time just a year later. Amy now works alongside Michelle as Co-Managing Director.
Three years into our journey, Amy's husband Grant swapped his bricklaying career to join AMZ full-time and is now an Operations Director. Michelle's husband, Sid, has also been involved from the very beginning, spending much of his retirement lending a helping hand.
And of course, there's our youngest family member, Skylar! Amy and Grant's two-year-old daughter is growing up surrounded by the AMZ community, learning the importance of kindness, friendship and inclusion from an early age.
But our family extends far beyond those we're related to. Our wonderful staff, volunteers and, most importantly, the amazing people who attend our sessions have all become part of our extended AMZ family.
At AMZ Activities Group, we're more than just an activity group, we're a family-run business with a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of adults with additional support needs.
Our mission is to create a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment where everyone feels valued, accepted and part of something special.
We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to build friendships, discover new interests, develop confidence and enjoy meaningful experiences. Through our engaging group sessions, we encourage independence, personal growth and positive physical and emotional wellbeing.
One of our biggest aims is to reduce social isolation by bringing people together, creating genuine connections and giving everyone something enjoyable to look forward to.
As a family-run business, AMZ means so much more to us than simply providing a service. The people who attend become part of our extended AMZ family, and we take great pride in creating a place where friendships flourish, confidence grows and everyone has the opportunity to shine.
At the heart of everything we do is one simple belief: everyone deserves to feel included, happy and part of a community where they truly belong.
